Bashley Village, on the town's northern boundary, lies within the New Forest Heritage Area and thus has escaped many of the development pressures that have affected other parts of the town.
Barton on Sea has seen dramatic changes to its seafront thanks to its now famous cliff erosion and also to new residential development. New Milton has a thriving local economy, excellent educational, leisure, sports and cultural facilities and a wide range of support services.
